How to Choose Linear Bearings for CNC Machines

Start with the axis architecture

A compact auxiliary axis can use cylindrical or housed linear bearings, while a long router axis often needs more shaft support. Decide travel length and frame stiffness before comparing part numbers.

Three checks

Parameter Value
Travel and support Long unsupported shafts can deflect; compare supported SBR/TBR rails when needed.
Mounting interface SC blocks simplify bolt-on mounting; flange bearings locate directly in plates.
Contamination and service Dust and chips change the value of seals, cleaning access and lubrication.
